Copy Editing
Plot, Language & Consistency
Copy editing is ideal for a manuscript whose structure and story are already settled, but where the writing needs a final level of refinement. The focus is on making the text clear, consistent and polished while preserving your individual voice and style.
- Refining sentence flow and structure to improve clarity and readability.
- Strengthening word choice to ensure precision and consistency.
- Reducing unnecessary repetition while preserving your writing style and voice.
- Correcting grammar, punctuation and spelling throughout the manuscript.
- Checking consistency in tense and point of view to maintain a cohesive narrative.
- Ensuring consistency in names, capitalisation and formatting throughout.
- Identifying minor continuity issues that may interrupt the reading experience.
Edits are made directly to the manuscript, with comments wherever something needs clarification or a decision from you. Throughout the edit, you can discuss feedback with your editor by email or video call and ask questions whenever you need to.
As part of working with Scott Editorial, you’ll also receive support with your synopsis or blurb, guidance on cover direction, a tailored marketing plan, a writer’s page on our website, promotion across our channels, and a call with Amy Scott to discuss your publication options.
